Our annual Harvest Party! We get together with our members and friends every fall once the harvest is through and celebrate with seasonal fare, music, and wine. This year we teamed up with Lokal’s Chef, Brendan Jones, who prepared an incredible spread of homegrown goodness and hearty meat provisions. Our good friend Casey Frazier also came along to provide tunes for the occasion.
This is just the start. Our quarterly wine club member pickup parties are increasing in grandeur and serendipity with more food and more fun. Look out for our Christmas party coming up here in the next month!
Harvest this year was quite an adventure for us, and in the great spirit of instilling a sense of homeostasis into the universe, we thought we would spend the next couple of months treating our members to some wonderful events. These photos from the Taylor Blackmore Gallery Opening this last October. Look out for more events upcoming!
The Chalone Appellation covers a viticultural area in the mountain range to the east of the agriculturally rich Salinas Valley (Pinnacles National Monument vicinity) and is home to more than a dozen wineries. It is known for its prime Pinot fruit and other varietals such as Chardonnay, Viognier, and Syrah. When we first arrived to drop our harvest bins off, we ran into a native Greater Roadrunner (Geococcyx californianus) sprinting across the dirt road. Shortly after, we saw a Peregrine Falcon take down a barn swallow with majesty and finesse. To say the least, Chalone is rugged and wild. Because of this, the arduous terroir produces some of the most sought out fruit of any Monterey AVA. We are lucky enough to be working with more than two tons of it this year. Harvested right @ 24 brix at midnight on August 23rd.
Brix measurements for our Estate Pinot currently @ 21 brix. We’ll be harvesting in the next few weeks so long as we don’t see any overbearing heat out here in the Valley.
Our good friends Daniel & Taylor came down to Carmel Valley recently and brought some of Taylor’s work to hang. We’ll have these pieces up for the next four months with two more to come. Taylor’s work can be found by following his instagrm at http://instagram.com/goldenratio. Daniel’s photography can be found at http://www.dblfoto.com/.
